Some issues I have with Aion

Aion is indeed a great game and I am enjoying it a lot. I do have some issues with it though, nothing huge just more of "WTF" frustrations, which will hopefully get fixed or changed some day.

1) Private Stores - Cool idea, I do it, however put a cool down time of at least an hour on it. There is way to many private stores going on.
2) The search friend feature needs work for finding a friend -seems to be channel based.
3) The AH/Trade Broker search an item never works for me - At all.
4) UI needs an option for user configuration - I'm spoiled from WoW addons.
5)The Spirit Master pet's need some work - It's hard for them to hold aggro - Defense is not to good at lower levels ( not sure on higher as my SM is level 13), 2 maybe 3 mobs and my spirit is dead :(  *queue's death music* , either give the SM a pet healing ability, or better defense on the pet. The taunt ability's tooltip is odd - says the fire spirit (all around pet ) taunt command spell is strong, the earth spirit (tank) taunt command spell is medium.  - Really that doesn't sound right.......??!!
6) Better self healing from bandages, pots, or food! - my bandage does 1/6th of my health.

So far every other aspect is good from what I have seen so far. I will post again as I find a small list forming of issues that need to be addressed.

What are your "WTF" 's?

Enchanting Items!

Aion has three ways to enhance items. One way is using the manastones that drop from mobs, the stones have specific buffs such as +30 mana or +14 defense, these stones can only be used as a socket stone for your gear, if your gear permits socketing. The second way is from a GodStone, these stones are similar to manastones except they can only enhance weapons, plus they give it a nice glow effect and who doesn't want to bring their enemies to their knees in style! The third way is by enchanting your gear with enchanting stones. These stones come from disenchanting an item ( gear and weapons only). To disenchant an item you need to use "Extraction Tools" which can be purchased from any general goods vendor. These tools will extract the enchanting stone from the gear or weapon you want to destroy. Yes Destroy! once extracted your gear becomes dust in the wind.

NO RETURNS, REFUNDS, or EXCHANGES!

Now the enchanting stones will have a L# next to the name, which signifies the item level of the gear that it was extracted from, such as a required level 7 dagger would yield you an "enchantment stoneL7". Items that you receive from quests will not have level requirement in the item description, however the item level is then based on the quest level it was obtained from, such as a level 8 quest gives you a shiny pair of boots, that would then extract an "enchantment stone L8". These enchantment stones can be stacked up to 10 times, which in turn raises the effect bonus each time you stack one.

"But how do I know which enchantment to put on what item level?"

Good questions -here is a quick reference list. Color of gear = enchantment stone level.

White Item = Item's Level +1-10 Levels
Green Item = Item's Level +5-20 Levels
Blue Item = Item's Level +15-40 Levels
Orange Item = Item's Level +30-50 Levels

Now I should mention that there is a chance that you fail the enchantment, which does have diminishing returns, and you will lose an enchantment stone on an item, for example if you have a level 10  item with 4 enchantment stones on it and the 5th one failed you now only have 3 stones on the item.

What the enchantment stones do when used: per 1 stone multiply by 10 for full stack of stones used.

Excuse Me??!!

Last night I logged in as a level 10 Spirit Master, I did still have a few quests left over that required me to be in Odella Plantation. I made my way to the plantation. I needed to kill 7 slashers for some medallions. So I proceeded to pick these slashers off one by one. Of course there were a lot of people doing the same so it was first come first serve. I managed to pick off my 4th one when a level 9 mage says to stop taking their kills they need them for a quest (this is edited for small ears!/eyes!) I advised that I too was on the same the same quest.
Their response: "No your not!"

-huh? yes I am! I have 3 more to go actually.

Them: "no you don't! your just here to be an @$$hole!"

-yeah you caught me! is it working?

Them: "YES! now stop and go to your level 20 area!"

-but I am only level 10 actually 1 bar into level 10. I won't survive in a 20 area. I like it better here where the mobs are level 8-9 and where I have quests at!

Them: "Can't you be an @$$ to someone else? and leave me alone!"

-you started it, I merely just invoked the ideology you created that I was an @$$!.

Them: "STOP! Your still doing it!"

-doing what? I am doing nothing wrong! I read the rules to this game and nowhere does it say I cannot be here at level 10 to finish a quest line!

Them: "What is it going to take to get you to stop?"

-an apology for being an @$$ and accusing me of being one. Oh and also 3 more Slasher kills :)

Then I see them in the general chat flaming everyone, and I'm the @$$.. really???WTF??
I swear there needs to be an application process to playing and buying an MMO!

Chat Channels... WTF?

Chat Channels - One thing that annoys the hell out of me is the chat channels. This goes for any MMO. Don't get me wrong the chat channel ability is great if it was used for what it was intended for. Now the channels are just filled with immature people and their conversations. I do find some stuff offensive and it can be really hard to offend me. What is the purpose to link items or spells to chat and have the word "anal" after it?

Really? It's not funny after it was done once, why keep it going?

Then there are the people who "flame" other people constantly. Someone is asking about a quest or a setting and you always will get the " press alt+F4" answer... or the your a "nub""noob"" thing.
GROW UP! there are people who will be new to the game, just as you were once, that will need some advice or help, just help then as one day you will need help too! remember that old saying "Treat others like you want to be treated" and the classic "KARMA".

Oh and one more thing  - type Proper F'n grammer -  if you need to type short hand, I am ok with that, such as people = ppl simple enough but don't say you pawnd or haxor ( by the way its HACKER) or ownz me because I have news for you you don't own shit! you pawned what? When did we play chess and when did I become a pawn in your chess game or mastermind plan?
Here is the definition of the word "pawn":
  • Main Entry: 1pawn
  • Pronunciation: \ˈpn, ˈpän\
  • Function: noun
  • Etymology: Middle English pown, from Anglo-French peoun, paun, from Medieval Latin pedon-, pedo foot soldier, from Latin ped-, pes foot — more at foot
  • Date: 14th century
1 : one of the chessmen of least value having the power to move only forward ordinarily one square at a time, to capture only diagonally forward, and to be promoted to any piece except a king upon reaching the eighth rank
2 : one that can be used to further the purposes of another

 /rant off

Yeah now I am good! Maybe one day I won't have to turn off all my chat channels.

Day 1 of Early Access!

So early access started yesterday at 3pm eastern, although I had to hunt that info down since no one posted or new the open times.
When I first logged in, I was standing in a crowd of new players, and when I say crowd I mean that I think you would have more room on a New York subway ride. The moment I say that I quickly grabbed the first quest and ran to an area with no one around and then the lag spikes started to happen. I logged out for 5 hours to let the starting area cool off for a bit, and once logged back in, I found myself with good FPS and questing alone.
/inhale....hold it..... and exhale
Ok now that I am alone I found a spot that I could stand and just nuke everything around me. I was killing mobs left and right (literally, I didn't move) I would loot and /rest then repeat and surprisingly enough I was able to hit level 4 in about 20 minutes and 2.5k kinah ( money ) and almost full bags.  I then proceeded to do the first 3 quests which brought me to level 5 and to the first camp area. I quickly unloaded my bags to the first vendor I found, I turned in the few quests I had, and then picked up all the quests available. I proceeded to find the mage trainer and purchase my spell manuals.
One great option about Aion and training your skills is your class trainers sells the manuals to new spells not just train you. I know what your thinking....

"So what's the difference to any other MMO?"

Well this means that I was able to purchase all my spell manuals through level 9 ahead of time, which would allow me to continue leveling with out having to return to train every odd level. Yes I said "odd level"! Once i Dinged the appropriate level I simply opened search my inventory for the manuals and clicked on them. Yep that's it!
I also knew I was going to need more "Cube" (bag) space so I found the "Cube Master" and bought additional space.
I quested (is that even a word?) and did some grinding until I hit level 9. I know what your thinking (I must be psychic).....

"Why stop at 9?"

I stopped my regular quests at 9 and received my ascension quest line which is talk to this person then that one, and so on and so on. 20 minutes later and I dinged 10. That's right that quest line gives you 73k xp. Not bad, you will also get to choose your sub class (Spirit Master for me = built in tank pets, which makes soloing very easy). Then you proceed to a huge city (Pandemonium - I am an asmo) where you will see a cut scene and then you proceed to talk to the the big guy of the city at which point...wait for it.... wait for it.. YES! another cut scene. This one makes you feel like the chosen one!. This is where you get your wings! I purchased more spell manuals and proceeded to log off for the night.

/yawn

I also wanted to warn everyone. Public chat (at least on my server) reminds me of the Barons in WoW. Maturity should be a requirement for MMO's!

Until next time - again nothing to follow, just until next time!.

Welcome to AION

Aion- I wasn't to sure of this game at first, since I am a WoW player. It looked like a Japanese bubble gum pop (if that's even a legit saying), but you get my point.
I was able to participate in the beta and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The graphics are great, the character customization is one of the best in an MMO - very close to AoC, and the game play is very similar to most MMO's. Will it topple the champion of MMO's WoW? No, it will not, however it will steal some player base from WoW, such as myself!.

During my beta I started with a Mage, I love ranged DPS, and I loved it. When I cast my first spell and my mage opened a spell book and chanted a word (out load) and a fireball erupted from his hands, all I could think was wow this is amazing! I did notice some stuff that annoyed me (I am very picky and no MMO will ever be perfect), you can't swim : ( . Instead you walk across the bottom of the lake/ocean floor, there is no breathing meter, but instead you just start loosing life. Another issue that annoyed me, especially as a mage, you burn mana fast but there is no real way of gaining mana back unless you use the /rest command and even then it's not fast at all. At level 10 to restore my mana from 0 to full using the /rest command = 2 minutes. So currently those are the 2 main annoyances.
Anyways back to my post about the game's good features.
I reached level 9 and was excited to find out that level 10 is given to you by 1 quest line (1 very long, run here, run there, talk to this person and that one, run back, do the moon walk, make me a sandwhich without crust on the bread quest line... I think I missed my kids birthdays twice during this quest line.... okay it's not that long, just a little tedious... Holy longest bracket saying ever!). <----Moron, that is my subconscious and he just complains about everything and always thinks he's right.
So I finally did my level 9 quest line and ascended into level 10 and the ability to pick which sub class to choose, I went with Spirit Master, and I finally earned my Glorious Wings and let me just sum them up with one word "Awesome"! Flyhing is very fun, but in the begining it is very short, as you progress in leveling it will become longer flight times.
One great feature that I noticed right off the bat was that there is a personal quest line that contains cut scenes. Very cool - gotta love cut scenes.  So that is it for now. I will have to wait until Sunday night to start to play the early access AION. Yes I have my 2 toons locked in and waiting to rip some mobs to pieces!
Until next post....... yeah that's it..no saying afterwards just until next post!.. okay stop reading! there is nothing left to read! ...................... STOP!
